COMMON PESTS

SPIDERS

Spiders are arthropods. Spiders have two body regions: the cephalothorax (head fused with thorax) and abdomen (sac-like and unsegmented). Spiders have 8 legs, a pair of jaws a pair of feeler-like pedipalps, one on either side of the jaws, and either 8 eyes or, less commonly, 6 eyes. All spiders are predators and produce venom with which they subdue their prey and defend themselves. Habits: Spiders often are categorized on the basis of how they capture prey. COCKROACHES

The German cockroach is the most important cockroach pest species because of its high reproductive rates, small size and ability to adapt and survive under almost any condition. Prior to the new millennium, German cockroaches were the number one pest species throughout the United States. However, the advent of cockroach baits made their control significantly easier. BEDBUGS

These bugs, which we’ve all heard horror stories about, live on the blood of animals or humans. They can easily infest entire homes, businesses, or hospitals when just a single male and female bug are introduced to the area.

Generally mice, won’t be seen during the day as they are nocturnal, and therefore looking for signs of mice may be a safer bet to confirm if you do have an existing problem. Looking for the evidence they leave behind rather than the actual mice, is also often far easier than trying to catch a glimpse of the rodent to identify the species invading your home.

RATS

Norway rats are a species of rodent, they have small bulging black eyes, a blunt nose, small ears, and a heavy body. Their fur is shaggy in appearance and is usually brown and scattered with black hairs. The fur on their underside is lighter than the rest of their body; usually a gray or whitish color. Adult Norway rat bodies are between 7 and 9 ½ inches in length; their tail is shorter than their body, is usually between 6 and 8 inches in length, and is bi-colored, dark in color on the top and

Bees/Wasps

Yellow jackets are social insects that live in colonies containing thousands of individuals. Colonies are usually started by a single queen in the early spring, and are very small for the first couple of months. By midsummer, a colony located on or near a house is usually large enough to become a nuisance. These wasps will aggressively attack when their nest is disturbed, and can inflict painful stings. Unlike the honeybee, which stings only one time and then dies, a single yellow jacket can st
